The last week or so

I forgot to post last week.  Seems to be a common theme for me lately.

My mom came to town 2 weeks ago to watch Maddox for us because we had no daycare and I have no time off to take, especially since I'm trying to save all I can for vacations this summer.  Anyway, it also coincided with the Tulip Festival in Mount Vernon.  Actually, let me back up . . .

Two years ago I had my first garden, which I loved.
And then we moved and then we moved again right during planting season, plus, with 2 moves within 6 months of each other we couldn't afford the dirt.  Anyway, this year I said we were going to have a garden again.  So when my Mom said she'd come over to watch Maddox, I asked her if she could bring my Dad's truck so we could get dirt.

My Mom decided to surprise us and got the dirt while we were at work (which was really nice because dirt places close at 5 and we didn't know how it was going to work out).  However, my Dad's truck is really big, and my Mom misjudged the distance between it and my broken car.  She hit my car, which hit my garage door.
But we got the dirt. =)

(Is it slave labor if you make your kids help shovel dirt?  Or is that child labor? Oh well.)  =)

The garden looks better now, but no additional pictures.  I planted some veggies this weekend, but all my seeds are 2 years old, so I don't know if they'll do very well.  I'll give it a week or two and if they don't sprout, I'll get plants.

Last weekend (well, 2 weeks ago) was the street fair in downtown Mount Vernon.  We did a "quick" trip there with my Mom (quick being only an hour and half) and then right after lunch my Mom and I went to Lynnwood to go shopping with my sister.
And, do you see? in the picture of Maddox, what he's wearing?  We stopped at the running store and I got my medal from the Tulip Run.  =)

This upcoming Sunday is Bloomsday.  Which I am registered for, but not really looking forward to it.  3 years ago I walked it with Nancy and had fun.  2 years ago I ran it for the first time.  This year, I'm not sure why I wanted to do it.  Nancy is going to Hawaii with my parents, so she, or they, won't be there.  My other sister, Barbara hasn't decided about whether or not to come to Spokane to see us.  So that pretty much leaves me with my slightly nutty aunt.  I'm not going to PR it, and I have to come back on Sunday so I can work on Monday.  =/

However, there is a complication in this whole thing . . . Sunday we noticed a rash like thing on Maddox's lower back.  Yesterday when I got home I noticed that he had some more sores on his lip and hand and arm.  We thought it looked like chicken pox and Chris stayed home today to take him to the dr.  I've been waiting all morning to hear what the prognosis is.  But that means that I may not be able to go to Spokane this weekend.

Well, Chris just called and said that Maddox does not have chicken pox.  He has hand-foot-and-mouth disease.  That is also a viral infection and nothing to do but wait it out, 7-10 days.  We noticed the sores on Sunday, so I suppose 7 days is this Sunday.  However, the dr said that as long as he doesn't have a fever and is acting normal (which he has been for the whole time), he can  go to school and daycare if they are okay with it.

Then there's the complication of a track meet on Friday.  It's a championship finale, so if Damian does well on Wednesday, he could have this meet on Friday, which means he can't go to Spokane with me . . . which means that I would be going alone. Which makes me want to go even less to hang out with my nutty aunt.  =/  And we'd have to figure out what to do with Maddox on Friday.  (We only have one car, and how would we get him from the daycare.)
